Aquarium Electricity Cost Calculator

Estimate running costs from equipment wattage, hours per day and your electricity rate in USD or BRL.

Enter your electricity price per kWh in this currency. No exchange-rate conversion is applied.

Calculate equipment energy use and running cost

Add each device with its power draw and active hours per day. Use the price per kWh from your own tariff. The equipment presets are editable examples rather than measurements of your hardware.

Formula and units

Daily energy (kWh) = watts × hours per day ÷ 1,000. Daily cost = total daily kWh × tariff. Monthly cost uses 30 days; yearly cost uses 365 days.

Worked example

A 40 W return pump running 24 hours uses 0.96 kWh per day. At an example tariff of US$0.20/kWh, that is US$0.192 per day, US$5.76 per 30-day month and US$70.08 per year.

Assumptions and limits

Use active heating hours for a thermostatic heater and actual power at the selected pump or light setting. Fixed fees, variable tariffs and seasonal operation are not modeled. USD and BRL change the displayed currency; they do not convert the rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate aquarium electricity cost?

For each device, multiply watts × operating hours per day ÷ 1,000 to get daily kWh, then multiply by your price per kWh. This tool uses 30 days per month and 365 days per year.

Should I enter 24 hours for a heater?

Only if it heats continuously. A thermostatic heater usually cycles on and off, so enter estimated active heating hours. A plug-in energy meter can help you measure actual consumption.

Does the estimate include my whole electricity bill?

No. It covers the equipment and per-kWh rate you enter. Fixed charges, tiered or time-of-use prices, seasonal changes and taxes may need separate treatment. Switching currency does not convert your tariff.
